Moving out of private / shared / rented accommodation

RUSU has a lot of advice for student tenants who are moving out of their home, including how to pay final bills and ensure you get your housing deposit back.
Waste and recycling
You must start to plan your move in advance so you don’t end up with a lot of waste and recycling to clear up. Reading Council and Wokingham Council websites have detailed information on how to dispose or recycle your unwanted items.
The council will not take away excess waste or recycling which does not fit into your bins or recycling banks. Local bottle banks in particular get filled up quickly.
You can arrange for your local council to take away any bulk waste, including furniture, kitchen equipment or small electrical appliances. It does not include large amount of bottles.
The council will only collect what fits into your bins. They will not collect excessive amounts of bottles. You must take these to a local recycling point – check the Recycling Bank Locator for information.
It is your responsibility to remove all your unwanted items – don’t leave this for someone else to deal with.
